On June 4, 2026, members of the Serbian association of plant breeders and seed producers, together with members of our Centre of Excellence, conducted a study visit to Superior seeds, a family-owned Serbian seed company headquartered in Velika Plana.
Founded in 1993, Superior Seeds has grown into a fully integrated seed operation. The company produces propagation material and multiplies seed in collaboration with more than 30 subcontractors. It also owns a modern processing and packaging centre and an in-house biotechnology laboratory specialised for in vitro plant production. The company is particularly committed to seed quality, employing triple-layer aluminium packaging to ensure optimal storage conditions and protection from environmental factors, including UV radiation.
During the visit, participants became familiar with the company’s operations. They explored the entire production chain, from the blueberry nursery and plantation to the processing centre, packaging facilities, and test fields. The programme also included a visit to the Koporin Monastery.
This study visit represented a valuable opportunity for knowledge exchange between national institutions active in the seed sector. Direct engagement with a company of this profile allowed our members to gain first-hand insights into industrial seed production practices, quality assurance procedures, and innovative approaches to plant biotechnology.
