Centre of Excellence for Innovations in Breeding of Climate-Resilient Crops
Welcome to ClimateCrops – The Center of Excellence for Innovations in Breeding Climate-Resilient Crops
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time, particularly affecting agricultural production. The increasing frequency of extreme weather events, such as high temperatures, droughts, heavy rainfall, and the emergence of new diseases and pests, negatively affect field crop production, jeopardizing yields and crop quality worldwide. Therefore, developing plant varieties and hybrids capable of withstanding extreme conditions and successfully adapting to a changing climate is one of the primary objectives of contemporary scientific research in agriculture.
The ClimateCrops Center is dedicated precisely to addressing these challenges. The Center conducts research primarily aimed at developing new genotypes of field crops that can effectively respond to adverse climate conditions. This goal is achieved through an interdisciplinary approach, bringing together researchers from various scientific fields such as genetics and plant breeding, biology, molecular biology, phytopathology, and plant physiology. Researchers within the Center focus both on fundamental research, which deepens the understanding of how plants respond to stress, and applied research, resulting in the creation of improved crop varieties and hybrids adapted to real-world agricultural conditions.
A crucial part of the Center’s mission is ensuring efficient technology transfer to end users—farmers, companies, and the wider community. ClimateCrops Center actively participates in national and international projects, collaborating with institutions in the fields of science, industry, and agriculture. Through organizing workshops, seminars, and presentations, researchers maintain direct communication with producers, thereby increasing the potential for practical application of new genotypes and technologies in real-world environments. Consequently, the Center also contributes to raising community awareness and knowledge about the significance of adopting innovations in agricultural production, facilitating better adaptation to climate-related challenges.
Besides directly contributing to agricultural production through the development of new, climate-resilient varieties and hybrids, the Center’s work strengthens the sustainability and stability of food production amidst growing climate uncertainties. ClimateCrops is open for collaboration and continuously strives towards innovations that will ensure stable food production for future generations.
Join us in building a more resilient and sustainable future!
